Human genetics, the study of our DNA, is one of the most exciting fields of study right now. The scientific and technological developments advance with the speed of lightning and uncover more and more information about who we are from our genes. Slowly, we’re even learning to interfere with our DNA and that of generations to come.

But is that what we actually want? And how do we, as individuals and as a society, deal with this? Do we want to know the information concealed in our DNA? Are others – a doctor, a dating app, the chef of our favourite restaurant, the police - allowed to extract information from it? Would you want to genetically modify your future children? Is it justified when you’re preventing hereditary health conditions? And when you’re just to giving them some extra assets in life?

The modern and near future possibilities of human genetics are, well, overwhelming. They are chilling and delightful. Lieven gets you up to speed, all in layman's terms, but without unnecessarily dumbing things down. Do not expect your typical science lecture. After all, Lieven has a solid background in stand-up comedy, and can not hide it. Dubbed the secret Belgian love child of Stephen Fry and Dara Ó Briain, he conveys complex matters in an accessible way, with expertise and the necessary dose of humour.
